It is mentioned in Al-Ihtijaj by Al-Tabarsi (2/10), Mu'jam Ahadith Al-Imam Al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) by Ali Al-Korani (3/166), Al-Khasa'is Al-Fatimiyya by Muhammad Baqir Al-Kajuri (2/575), Jawahir Al-Tarikh by Ali Al-Korani Al-Amili (3/17, 25), Mawsu'at Shahadat Al-Ma'sumin (peace be upon them) by the Hadith Committee at Baqir Al-Uloom Institute (1/411), and Mawsu'at Kalimat Al-Imam Al-Hasan (peace be upon him) by the Hadith Committee at Baqir Al-Uloom Institute (129):

فعن زيد بن وهب الجهني قال : لما طعن الحسن بن علي عليه السلام بالمدائن أتيته وهو متوجع, فقلت : ما ترى يا بن رسول الله فإن الناس متحيرون ؟ فقال: أرى والله أن معاوية خير لي من هؤلاء, يزعمون أنهم لي شيعة, ابتغوا قتلي وانتهبوا ثقلي, وأخذوا مالي

"Zayd ibn Wahb al-Juhani narrated:

"When Al-Hasan ibn Ali (peace be upon him) was stabbed in Al-Mada'in, I visited him while he was in pain. I asked, 'What do you think, O son of the Messenger of Allah? For the people are confused.'

He replied, 'By Allah, I see that Mu'awiya is better for me than these people who claim to be my Shia. They sought to kill me, plundered my belongings, and took my wealth.'" [1]

Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.

The narration is mentioned in the book Al-Ihtijaj, and those authors you referenced have cited it from there. However, Al-Ihtijaj does not provide a chain of transmission for this narration beyond attributing it to Zayd ibn Wahb al-Juhani, making the narration weak in terms of its chain of transmission.

Even if we set aside the issue of the chain, the Imam's (peace be upon him) statement that these people are not his true Shia indicates that making peace with Mu'awiya was a better option than dealing with these Nasibis who sought to kill him. Preferring peace with Mu'awiya over fighting against such people is a valid stance, as they would have ultimately handed the Imam (peace be upon him) over to Mu'awiya alive, as the latter part of the narration suggests.

May you remain under Allah’s care.
